Welcome to Animal Crossing! The important thing to do here is to chill. What is a better way to set a chill mood than vibing it out with your mates? In the game, and even in the latest entry, you can do just that. You can have neighbors who do nothing but laze around, gazing at the clouds and the sky. They have a generally chill attitude to everything around them. What are they? Lazy villagers, of course!
Lazy villagers are a ton of fun to hang out with. They have interesting things to say all the time. If you want lazy villagers on your island, here is a complete guide full of necessary details about them.
What are Lazy Villagers?
Lazy villagers have many names. Some call them the relaxed villagers. Others call them doofus villagers or food-loving villagers. Whatever you call them, they are male villagers who live a chill and laid-back lifestyle. They rarely stress about anything, and if they do, they are probably stressing out about what to eat for tomorrow. They are known for their love of food. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they are fond of bugs. They even refer to them as their roommates!
As of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are a total of 72 lazy villagers. However, not all of them are in the game. Out of the 72 lazy villagers, only 63 are in New Horizons. Also, four villagers used to be lazy. Now, their personality has changed. Compared to other villagers, they generally have a youthful aura around them. They are often seen with lazy smiles and droopy eyes.
The Behavior of Lazy Villagers
Lazy villagers are goofy and naive. Unlike normal villagers, they do not care about most things, such as homework or chores. Instead, they focus their energy on doing calm activities, like sitting down and eating up a delicious snack. During the early entries of the series, they were depicted as silly and lazy elders who have become the way they are due to their age. However, this changed in later entries. Now, they are depicted as youthful villagers.
They act a certain way throughout the different games. For example, in Animal Crossing: Wild World, they would say that they have been reading the “Chillin’ Magazine”. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they would mention that they are friends with bugs, even considering them roommates. Because of their fondness for bugs, they are the only villagers who will not be disgusted with roaches in the player’s house. They will still leave, however.
Another thing that lazy villagers tend to do is make crazy conspiracy theories. These conspiracy theories are about the town and how certain things work. For instance, they may talk out loud about how the Tom Nook Point System works. They would theorize that the system talks because Tom Nook fills the basement with stuffed animals of his likeness. They would even break the fourth wall, theorizing that they are all part of a video game.
Sleep Schedule of Lazy Villagers
The time lazy villagers wake up and go to sleep is different across the games of the series. In the first game, Animal Crossing, they are asleep at 10 PM. They are awake at 8 AM. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, they are asleep at 1:30 AM. However, the time they wake up is still 8 AM.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, they are asleep at 11 PM. This time, they are awake at 9 AM. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they are asleep at 11 PM. They are awake at 8 AM once again. Below is a summary of the sleep schedule.
Animal Crossing | Animal Crossing: Wild World | Animal Crossing: City Folk | Animal Crossing: New Leaf | Animal Crossing: New Horizons | |
The time they go to sleep | 10 PM | 1:30 AM | 1:30 AM | 11 PM | 11 PM |
The time they wake up | 8 AM | 8 AM | 8 AM | 9 AM | 8 AM |
Relationships Between Lazy Villagers
Lazy villagers are very friendly. Many even consider them as the easiest villagers to be friends with. As for other villagers, they can be quick friends with other lazy villagers and peppy villagers. Smug villagers can also get along well with lazy villagers. Their sense of humor is laid-back and nonchalant. Lazy villagers find that kind of humor amusing. Cranky villagers can get along well with them too thanks to their shared love for a slow-paced lifestyle and outlook.
However, they may find getting along with jock villagers to be difficult. Jock villagers have a different lifestyle compared to lazy villagers. They are all about the grind, exercise, and hard work, while lazy villagers prefer to be relaxed. Snooty villagers can also have a hard time dealing with lazy villagers. They despise the laid-back attitude lazy villagers have. They do not like how the lazy villagers are not obsessed with their physical appearance.
As a result, lazy villagers can easily make snooty and jock villagers visibly upset. This can happen when they are talking with each other. Sometimes, lazy villagers say the wrong things. They can also make other villagers sad. Normal villagers may clash occasionally with lazy villagers. However, they will not get mad. Their arguments tend to end up with the lazy villager suggesting they make food for them.
