Cats are endearing creatures you want to cuddle all day. What separates them from dogs is that most of the time, cats are just incredibly lazy. They do not get overly excited like a dog would when they are out in the park. They would rather just sleep every minute, occasionally standing up, pooping, and eating. Aside from their laziness, they are also incredibly wacky sometimes.
I own a cat, and I would often witness it zooming around my room like it recently got a hit of catnip. It loves playing around with strings and yarns, and it would sometimes pounce at its toy mouse. As I played Animal Crossing on my Switch and saw that everyone you live with on the island are animal, I thought to myself, “I wish I could live with my lazy and sometimes crazy but adorable cat.”
As it turns out, I could! There are cat villagers in the game, and three of them love to laze around all day. One of these lazy cats is Punchy, a black and white cat with half-closed eyes, seemingly looking at others smugly. Between the three lazy cats, I think Punchy is the most realistic-looking one. If you want a Punchy living on your island, here are some details about him you will find useful.

Who Is Punchy in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Punchy is a male cat villager with a lazy personality who first appeared in Animal Crossing, the Nintendo GameCube video game that was the first in the series to be localized for the Western audience. He did not appear in the first entry for the Nintendo 64, although he did reappear in every entry after his debut. As such, he appears in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the entries not in the main series.
His birthday is on April 11, making him an Aries. According to information about him in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he is the youngest among six siblings, and his skill is staying awake. He aims to become a cartoonist, and his Halloween fear is the Monster Mask. He prefers coffee made from Kilimanjaro beans and without milk or sugar.
Many fans speculate that his name is a reference to his appearance, as he looks like he is dizzy or groggy after being punched a dozen times. However, this is all speculation because nobody would want to hurt Punchy at all. Meanwhile, his Japanese name is “Binta,” which means “a slap in the face” in English. His Japanese name further cements the theory about his name being a reference to how his face looks.
His favorite saying throughout all the games is, “there’s always more fish in the sea!” and his catchphrase is, “mrmpht.” In New Horizons, he likes to play, and so you may occasionally see him running around with his arms out or reading a comic book indoors. He will sometimes carry with him a chocolate donut, a veggie-print handbag, a comic book, a tea can or yellow mug, or an orange popsicle.
What Does Punchy Look Like in Animal Crossing?
Punchy is a black and white cat with pointy ears, yellow eyes, and whiskers. His eyelids are purple and half-closed like he is about to fall asleep. His paws and the lower half of his face are completely white, while the rest of his body is black. His mouth forms like a cat’s cheeky smile, and the inside of his ears is pink. In New Horizons, he wears a Madras Plaid Shirt of the gray variation.
He also carries with him a Frog Umbrella, which is a green umbrella designed like a frog by its eyes. In his appearances from Wild World to City Folk, he wore a Gray Tartan Shirt and carried with him a Blue Umbrella. However, in his debut game, he initially wore a Cherry Shirt. For the Doubutsu no Mori+, he wore a shirt with the label, “I Love GC,” and he carried with him a Nintendo Parasol.
What Is Punchy’s Personality in Animal Crossing?
Punchy is a lazy villager, and as Isabelle calls them, “he’s rather calm and very gentle. I’d consider him an oasis for your heart here in [your town]!” They are iconic for their laidback nature and relaxed demeanor. Punchy is friendly towards you, and his free and easy lifestyle is something to admire. It is understandable why his yellow eyes are droopy. He is one of the 63 lazy villagers in New Horizons.
He wakes up at 8 AM and sleeps at 11 PM in New Horizons. In New Leaf, he still sleeps at 11 PM, but he wakes up at 9 AM instead. He has similar schedules between Wild World and City Folk, as he wakes up at 8 AM and sleeps at 1:30 AM in both games. In his debut game, Animal Crossing, he would go to sleep at 10 PM and wake up at 8 AM.
If you want to know more about lazy villagers, I recommend reading this article all about them.
Punchy’s House Throughout the Animal Crossing Games
Punchy’s house’s interior design has remained the same most of the time until New Horizons. Looking at it, it truly reflects Punchy’s appearance and personality. Most of his furniture, like his bed, tables, and chairs, is blue because, in all these games, his favorite color is blue. The layout is simple and clean, which I like. Below is a detailed description of the items inside Punchy’s house.
Punchy’s House in Animal Crossing
In Animal Crossing, he has an orange wall designed with squares and circles in a frantic fashion. His floor consists of blue squares with crosses on them. The crosses often change in terms of the shades of blue. On the upper left corner is his bed with a blue frame and yellow pillows, while on the upper right corner sits a large teddy bear with a red ribbon around its neck.
In the middle of the room are two blue tables with golden yellow chairs behind them. The tables have a yellow cloth laid over them with crisscross patterns. On the lower-left corner of his room is a potted plant known as a bromeliad, and beside it is a black and golden yellow stereo. Meanwhile, in the lower right corner of his room lies a speed bag, and beside it is a potted cactus.

Punchy’s House in Animal Crossing: Wild World
Punchy’s house in Wild World has the same aesthetics as his house in Animal Crossing. However, there are notable changes and additions. In the middle of the room, only one big blue table is present, yet the two golden-yellow chairs are still there. On the upper left corner of his room lies a blue bookcase. Now, his blue bed is located in the lower right corner of his room.
The potted bromeliad is gone now, but the cactus replaces its original position beside the stereo. Also, a wide blue bench sits to the right of the blue table. Additionally, a refrigerator and a stove replace the large teddy bear in the upper right corner.

Punchy’s House in Animal Crossing: City Folk
Punchy’s house in City Folk has the exact same interior layout as his house in Wild World.

Punchy’s House in Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Once again, the interior design of his house in New Leaf retains a lot of elements from the layout in the previous game. However, the developers and designers changed and added some more elements. They replaced the two golden-yellow chairs with a blue dresser and an Oombloid, which is a gyroid that makes certain sounds. On the blue dresser is a golden night lamp. Also, the fridge and stove switched places.
Also, they moved the blue bench to the left side now, and the black and golden yellow stereo sits in the lower right corner of his room. The cactus is gone now, yet the potted bromeliad returns with its natural glory. Also, they changed the walls from an orange wallpaper designed with circles and squares to a yellow one with paw prints scattered all over. Furthermore, they attached a blue wall shelf on the left.

Punchy’s House in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
They gave Punchy’s house a complete makeover in New Horizons, albeit with some elements still retained from the previous games. The wall is a simple blue-clothed one, while the floor is designed like jointed pinkish mats. On the upper left corner of his room is a blue wooden chest with potted cat grass on top. Beside it is a blue wooden mini table with a cute music player and a multi-colored cloth on top.
On the upper right corner of Punchy’s house is a blue refrigerator, and beside it is a blue stove. Above the stop is a ventilation fan attached to the wall. To the left, near the window, there is a blue wooden low table and on the opposite side is a cute DIY table with a bunch of materials on top. Finally, his blue wooden simple bed sits in the lower right corner.
The house’s exterior consists of white wooden planks with a straight metal-like roof. The wooden door is white with a brownish doorknob, and the base below the planks are stone foundations. A lamp hangs on the upper left side of the door. The window is an upright rectangle with four glass panels divided equally. A brown wooden sign stands in front of the window, and on the roof is a black chimney.
