How to Get Flour in Animal Crossing

Making flour is impossible without a kitchen, a flour recipe, and wheat, but where can you find these items? In this article, we’ll break down ways to get the materials you need, so making flour will be a cinch. You’ll be cooking up a storm in no time!

How to Get the Recipe

Flour

Once you’ve downloaded the 2.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ve already gotten one step closer to getting the recipe for flour. However, you’ll also need to upgrade the Resident Services building, complete the DIY workshop, and have an island rating of at least three stars before unlocking the recipe. The only way to get it is by using the Nook Stop at the Resident Services building. Purchase the Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ for 2,000 Nook Miles, and you’ll have the recipe for flour!

Whole-wheat Flour

If you want whole-wheat flour, head over to Nook’s Cranny to buy the Basic Cooking Recipes package from the cabinet. It normally costs 4,980 Bells, but if you have the Bell Ordinance in effect, the recipe package is 5,976 Bells.

How to Get Wheat

Wheat is the only thing needed to make flour. Regular flour requires five of them, while Whole-wheat flour calls for 10. Growing your own with wheat starts is the best decision, but sailing to islands is also an option. The chances of finding wheat starts on other islands are slim, so I highly suggest growing them on your island.

You can buy wheat starts from Leif. The sloth will stop by your island once a week or once every two weeks, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. If waiting for his arrival is inconvenient, unlock his shop on Harv’s Island Plaza. You’ll have to donate a whopping 100,000 Bells to the Lloid who brings up “a botany expert with the greenest of thumbs,” though. If you’re short on Bells, I suggest catching fish and bugs to make as much money as you can. After that’s done, Leif will have his shop set up the next day!

If the sloth doesn’t have wheat starts, check his stock a week later on Harv’s Island or when he appears on your island again. The starts each cost 280 Bells, or 1,400 for a bundle of five.

Once you plant the wheat, they will be ready to harvest in four days. You’ll get the biggest bang for your buck if you water them daily. Doing this yields three stalks per wheat start on day four! Don’t forget, there’s no need to water the produce on rainy days.

How to Get a Kitchen

You should get a stonework kitchen DIY recipe upon purchasing the Be a Chef! DIY Recipes package from the Nook Stop. It only requires 30 stones, 15 clay, and 10 iron nuggets. If this kitchen isn’t your style, you can always buy another one from Nook’s Cranny.

The system kitchen and kitchen island, in particular, are popular picks! The former is 156,000 Bells with the Bell Ordinance in effect and 130,000 without the ordinance. Meanwhile, the kitchen island is 204,000 Bells with the Bell Ordinance and 170,000 without it.

If those prices are too hefty, just craft a kitchen. The Wildest Dreams DIY package from Nook’s Cranny cabinet is only 6,980 Bells, and it contains the ironwood kitchenette.

Making the Flour

Now that you have everything you need, you can finally make flour! The steps are quite simple too. First, walk to your kitchen and press A to interact with it. Your character will say, “Should I make something with the furniture here?” Then, select “Let’s make something!” If you have five pieces of wheat, the flour recipe should appear under the “Craftable” tab. Likewise, the whole-wheat flour will show under the same tab if you have 10 wheat pieces. Click whichever one you’d like to create, and select “Make it!” Last but not least, click “Let’s prep!” to confirm your choice.

What to Do With Flour

There are plenty of things to do with flour! The most common option is, of course, cooking with it. Tons of delectable recipes contain flour, like pastries and pizzas. Take some time to discover various recipes and test your culinary skills in New Horizons. The sky’s the limit when you have flour as an ingredient! If you’ve cooked enough flour recipes already, you may also store it in your home, gift it to someone, or sell it at Nook’s Cranny.
