Apollo Animal Crossing

Introduction

Animal Crossing has perhaps been the most stable game in my life for a long time! I cannot name another game (except perhaps Stardew Valley) that I have played through so many of my life stages and events! I even remember playing Animal Crossing on my hot pink Nintendo DS (that I begged my dad to get me for Christmas) although I’ll be honest when I was that young (maybe ten) I did not fully understand what I was doing for a good while! There is also something so nostalgic about being able to play Animal Crossing now on my big TV (connected via my switch) Animal Crossing has a very diverse villager base of animals of any species, including dogs, hippos, penguins, and bears. Animal Crossing also puts a lot of work into every one of its villagers with fully developed personalities, style, and preferences that add variety to your island and makes for some interesting islander relationships. This means that even though I have played Animal Crossing for so long, even I need to keep up to date with the character changes and progression!

Some islanders will upset others, and you may have to mitigate and help resolve conflicts between villagers; usually, a cranky or smug villager will be involved in these conflicts as they are known to insult and offend others. This does not mean that cranky villagers are all bad. However, some can be quite nice once you break down their tough exteriors – such as our lovely Apollo! I love the grumpy old man trope, in tv, film, and games! There is something so lovable about a little cranky guy who you just know always is nice at heart, and that is true of Apollo. Not only is he soft and kind when you get to know him, but he also has one of the coolest character designs and cohesive stories that I have seen in Animal Crossing!

Bottom Line Up Front

Apollo is a cranky eagle villager who has been present in the very version of Animal Crossing so far, his birthday is on the 4th of July, and he is the oldest of a set of quintuplets. Apollo has a music hobby and so can often be found singing and dancing around the island even when there is no music playing nearby. As Apollo is cranky, he can often come across as rude, judgemental, and grumpy to other villagers in the game, although he will soften over time (if you want to persist through the initial barrage of insults he sends your way) In the Happy home paradise update, Apollo’s vision is ”A home in the rough”, and to complete his request, he needs a ruined decorative pillar and a ruined broken pillar.

Who is Apollo?

Apollo

Apollo is a unique and very well-created Cranky Eagle villager who has been included in every single version of Animal Crossing to date! Apollo is one of only eleven available eagle villagers in the Animal Crossing series, four of which are cranky. There is a lot to uncover and love about Apollo despite his cranky nature, but here are some basic details;

  • Name: Apollo
  • Gender: Male
  • Species: Eagle
  • Birthday: The 4th of July
  • First appearance: Apollo has been in all versions of Animal Crossing
  • Hobby: Music
  • Siblings: He is the first born (technically) of a group of quintuplets
  • Personality: Cranky
  • Catchphrase: Pah

Something that I have always loved about Animal Crossing is the detail and storyline that you can uncover from how the villagers are named and designed! Take our lovely Apollo, for example; he is designed as an Eagle – the national bird of the United States of America, and I do not know quite how they have achieved this, but he even looks presidential as an eagle. He has a presidential and patriotic stance (again, I have no idea how they have achieved this with an eagle). Apollo’s name also has a patriotic edge as many believe he is named after the Apollo space program (another very patriotic staple) There is much more to uncover, but you can see that he is a complex and detailed character already; now, let’s focus on his regal appearance!

Appearance

Apollo’s regal appearance for sure comes from his clothes as well as his posture! Apollo wears a black presidential jacket with long sleeves and is buttoned up. Apollo’s long and wide wings fill out the jacket and come out of the sleeves in a dark grey color. Much like eagles themselves, Apollo has a very large head that sits right on top of his jacket (not a neck in sight). Apollo’s head is white and spiky at the end of his neck in layers. Apollo also has three small spikes in his hair that poke out from the back of his head. Apollo also has a large yellow beak with one singular black nostril. Below his jacket Apollo has a small dark tail and striped yellow and brown legs, and white claws poking out of his feet.

Personality

Apollo

Apollo is a cranky villager and is not the most relaxed or outgoing. As Apollo is a cranky villager, this means he is, of course, male, and much like the name would suggest, cranky villagers, are often moody and grumpy. Cranky villagers play on that whole ”grumpy old man” stereotype and often don’t understand the slang language and the references to trends that other more modern villagers (such as peppy villagers) often use in conversation.

What I always found surprising about cranky villagers is that unlike the name would suggest, they spend most of their time outside (once they get up and about, that is). Cranky villagers get up at 9 AM and go to bed at 3; at 30 AM (another shocking development for a cranky old man stereotype to be up so late) As cranky villagers are the male version of snooty villagers, they often can be seen to pass judgment on others for not only their appearance but their lifestyle too. Snooty and cranky villagers often will find ways to make conflict with peppy and normal villagers who are much more relaxed and easygoing, but cranky villagers often see them as childish and embarrassing.

Cranky villagers will, however, get along with smug, jock, and snooty villagers as they are much more alike in their views and ideas and can all be quite uptight and judgemental to others and so feel comfortable talking amongst themselves. Cranky villagers may not have the best reputation among the villager types they can eventually open up as you get to know them (if you can put up with them long enough to get to their good side) Otherwise, Cranky villagers are often described as:

  • Rude
  • Bitter
  • Insensitive
  • Cheeky

Apollos Homes

Villagers’ homes in Animal Crossing are always a unique and exciting glimpse into their styles and personality. As Apollo’s style develops and changes throughout the years, it is not the most creative or exciting design, but you can see it fits his personality and style.

Apollos Home In Animal Crossing Has The Following Items:

Summary

Apollo

Apollo, for me, is one of the most cohesive and well developed, and thought-out characters within Animal Crossing, with the level of detail in his backstory, his name, his appearance, and even his personality! Although cranky villagers are not my favorite, they are not all bad, and it is good to have some on your island. You just need to remain patient and thick-skinned to get through all the insults and rudeness they will send your way in the early stages. Once you get through this, they do become more lovable and will start to open up to you over time.
